..Title Authorizing the Committee of Transportation and Public Utilities to hold hearings into access to transportation services for Philadelphia residents to expand their regional employment opportunities. ..Body WHEREAS, Regional employment growth continues to be strongest in suburban markets; and WHEREAS, These markets often lack efficient public transportation for many city residents; and WHEREAS, These residents therefore face serious obstacles in reaching employment opportunities in suburban locations; and WHEREAS, These particular obstacles are less related to skills and education than to geographic considerations and transportation constraints; and WHEREAS, Transit provided by SEPTA is comprised of a network of mostly fixed, centrally-focused transportation lines; and WHEREAS, This system was an effective supply of transportation services when more of the region's job growth was located in Philadelphia; now therefore RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That the Committee on Transportation and Public Utilities is authorized to hold hearings into access to transportation services for Philadelphia residents to expand their regional employment opportunities. ..End
