..Title Recognizing the untimely and tragic death of Juliet Owens and commending her service as a crossing guard, friend and protector of the children of Philadelphia for fifteen years. ..Body WHEREAS, Popular crossing guard, Juliet Owens, age 69, died at her post on Monday, March 3, 2002, the victim of a freak motor vehicle accident at the intersection of Vernon Road and Thouron Avenue; and WHEREAS, Juliet Owens, who guarded the school children crossing at Vernon Road and Thouron Avenue for 15 years, was hit by an out-of-control car at 8:30 a.m., just after she had escorted some children to safety at the curb; and WHEREAS, Juliet Owens was pinned under the car and later died at Einstein Medical Center at 9:00 a.m; and WHEREAS, An entire neighborhood has paid tribute to her at the site of the accident, and grieves her passing; and WHEREAS, We offer our sincerest condolences to the family of Juliet Owens; and WHEREAS, Juliet Owens, who greeted her charges every morning with a smile and a wave, will be terribly missed by her family and friends and by the children whom she protected for 15 years; now therefore RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we recognize the untimely and tragic death of Juliet Owens, and that we commend her service as a crossing guard, friend and protector of the children of the City of Philadelphia for fifteen years. ..End
