..Title Honoring the Olde Fort Mifflin Historical Society. ..Body WHEREAS, Since this year marks the 255th Anniversary of Fort Mifflin, we in this Council recognize November 9, 2002 through November 15, 2002 as Fort Mifflin Week in the City of Philadelphia; and WHEREAS, Fort Mifflin is the site of the largest bombardment during the American Revolution. It was a key fortification for the defense of the Delaware in 1777; and WHEREAS, If not for Fort Mifflin and the valiant men who served there, there would have been no Valley Forge: by delaying the British shipping and re-supplying of the British Army, the men who served at the Fort helped save the Continental Army; and WHEREAS, Fort Mifflin was used by the United States Military from 1777 until 1954, and today it is the only fort in the City of Philadelphia. It is a National Historic Landmark and is visited by more that 10,000 school children each year; and WHEREAS, We also salute the staff, Board of Directors and members of the Olde Fort Mifflin Historical Society. They have served the fort, its history and its great tradition for years, and they keep Fort Mifflin a vibrant living lesson in our Country's history; now therefore RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby honor and commend all those involved with the Olde Fort Mifflin Historical Society, and recognize November 9, 2002 through November 15, 2002 as Fort Mifflin Week in the City of Philadelphia. FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Mr. James Mosetter, President of the Olde Fort Mifflin Historical Society, as evidence of the sincere sentiments of this legislative body. ..End
