..Title Declaring the Week of May 25-June 1, 2003 as "Wellness Community of Philadelphia Week." ..Body WHEREAS, The Wellness Community of Philadelphia (TWCP) has been serving those with cancer and their loved ones since July of 1993 and is therefore celebrating its 10th Anniversary; and WHEREAS, TWCP has provided over 72,000 hours of programs to over 10,000 people with cancer and their loved ones; and WHEREAS, TWCP provides support groups, seminars in current trends in cancer treatment, nutrition and exercise classes, stress management techniques, social events and much more to those coping with cancer; and WHEREAS, Services, which provide a comprehensive program of hope and learning for people with cancer and their loved ones, are offered at no charge through The Wellness Community of Philadelphia; and WHEREAS, When The Wellness Community of Philadelphia relocated to Ridgeland in Fairmount Park, they preserved one of the City's most beautiful historic properties at no cost to City taxpayers; and WHEREAS, The nation is celebrating the sixteenth annual National Cancer Survivors' Day on June 1, 2003 and The Wellness Community of Philadelphia will recognize this special day with a "Celebration of Hope" on May 30; and WHEREAS, The fifth annual "Celebration of Hope," which will offer educational conferences on cancer, as well as an "Evening Under the Stars" gala dinner and awards ceremony is fast approaching and that provides this City Council an ideal opportunity to honor this well deserving organization; now therefore RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby declare the Week of May 25-June 1, 2003 as "Wellness Community of Philadelphia Week." FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to The Wellness Community of Philadelphia as evidence of the sincere sentiments of this legislative body. ..End
