..Title Authorizing Public Hearings of the Committee on Public Safety regarding the proliferation of motorized scooters in the City of Philadelphia. ..Body WHEREAS, There has been an increase in the use and availability of motorized scooters in the City Council of Philadelphia; and WHEREAS, The use of motorized scooters by children can be dangerous in high traffic areas and in some cases can cause accidents and injury; and WHEREAS, The noise created by scooters can also cause increased neighborhood complaints; and WHEREAS, Riding a scooter on the sidewalk is prohibited under Section 10-1611 (2) (d) and can be subject to a fine of $20.00; and WHEREAS, Certain vehicles such as motorized cycles and bicycles can be restricted on the street; now therefore RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That the Committee on Public Safety is authorized to hold hearings on the use and dangers of motorized scooters in Philadelphia: and RESOLVED, That the committee make such recommendations as it deems necessary regarding issuing further regulations or banning the use of motorized scooters in Philadelphia. ..End
