..Title Honoring the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra and designating September 25, 2003 as Philadelphia Youth Orchestra Day in Philadelphia. ..Body WHEREAS, the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra (PYO) was founded 62 years ago and is one of the oldest youth orchestras in a major U.S. city; and WHEREAS, PYO has provided professional-level musical experiences to young instrumentalists ranging from ten to twenty-one years of age; and WHEREAS, PYO serves young musicians from a diverse cultural spectrum, socioeconomic background and a wide geographic area; and WHEREAS, PYO has participated in twelve international concert tours since 1981 and has offered many young musicians a broad cultural education and opportunity to perform in the world's greatest concert halls; and WHEREAS, PYO has gathered rave reviews throughout the world, and has performed in such countries as Australia, China, South America, Europe the Middle East and Russia; now therefore RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby observe September 25, 2003 as the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra Day. FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra as a symbol of this legislative body's gratitude for enriching the lives of young people in Philadelphia and the surrounding areas. ..End
