..Title Designating July 2, 2003 as Let's Lick Leukemia Day and commending the Joshua Kahan Fund for its efforts to help find a cure for pediatric leukemia. ..Body WHEREAS, The nonprofit Joshua Kahan Fund was created in 1997 by the parents of two-year-old Joshua Kahan, who died of pediatric leukemia; and WHEREAS, Leukemia continues to afflict more children between the ages of 1 and 14 than any other disease in the United States; and WHEREAS, The Joshua Kahan Fund raises funds for leukemia research at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia through special events, most notably the three-day Super Scooper "All-You-Can-Eat" Ice Cream Event that has been part of Sunoco "Welcome America!" for four years and has raised more than $200,000; and WHEREAS, The Joshua Kahan Fund has been proclaimed "the fastest-growing philanthropic organization dedicated to advancing the mission of the Division of Oncology at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia; now therefore RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby designate July 2, 2003 as Let's Lick Leukemia Day and hereby honor the Joshua Kahan Fund for its dedication to supporting leukemia research and improving the quality of life of pediatric leukemia patients and their families throughout Greater Philadelphia. FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to the Joshua Kahan Fund further evidencing the sincere sentiments and high esteem of this Legislative Body. ..End
