..Title Designating September 23, 2003 as John William Coltrane Day in the City of Philadelphia. ..Body Honoring and recognizing John William Coltrane, Philadelphia legend, noted jazz musician, arranger, composer, Grammy Award Winner and TRANESTOP Resource Institute, Inc. for sustaining the focus on the cultural and musical contributions of John Coltrane. WHEREAS, It is documented that John Coltrane was born on September 23, 1926 and was one of the major tenor and soprano sax players of his era; and WHEREAS, John Coltrane remains as influential today to many younger and older musicians in several different musical genre; and WHEREAS, The TRANESTOP Resource Institute, Inc. was named in the spirit and work ethic of this great Philadelphia legend; and WHEREAS, The initiatives of TRANESTOP honor the memory of John William Coltrane; now therefore RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That September 23, 2003 is declared "John Coltrane Day" in the City of Philadelphia and that The TRANESTOP Resource Institute, is also honored for its effort to ensure jazz preservation. FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of the resolution is presented to representatives of TRANESTOP as an expression of the gratitude and sincere appreciation of the legislative body. ..End
