..Title Urging Mayor John F. Street, Governor Edward G. Rendell, The Philadelphia Congressional Delegation, Speaker of the House John Perzel, and State Senator Vincent Fumo to combine their efforts to ensure that the Philadelphia Regional Produce Terminal remains in Philadelphia. ..Body WHEREAS, On April 16, 2004 officials from the state of New Jersey presented an offer to the stockholders of the Philadelphia Fresh Food Terminal Corporation to begin construction of a new market along the Camden Waterfront; and WHEREAS, The Shareholders of the Philadelphia Regional Produce Terminal have set a deadline of June 5, 2004 for Philadelphia to present a counter offer; and WHEREAS, The Philadelphia Regional Produce Terminal is an anchor along the waterfront, and has been in operation in Philadelphia for over forty-four years; and WHEREAS, The Philadelphia Regional Produce Terminal employs 1,100 employees, of which more than half reside in the City of Philadelphia generating millions of dollars in tax revenue; and WHEREAS, The departure of the Philadelphia Regional Produce Terminal will be a significant loss to our region in an environment where it has become all too difficult to attract and maintain business; now therefore RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, that this legislative body strongly urges the aforementioned parties to combine their efforts to ensure that Philadelphia Regional Produce Terminal remains in the City of Philadelphia. FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Chief Clerk shall forward a copy of this Resolution to Mayor John F. Street, Governor Edward Rendell, The Philadelphia Congressional Delegation, Speaker of the House John Perzel, and State Senator Vincent Fumo for their consideration. ..End
