..Title Authorizing the Committee on Finance to conduct hearings on the possibility of non-profits, community groups and block captains, the ability to use stages, show mobiles and sound systems for community events at a nominal fee. ..Body WHEREAS, Community events are the lifeblood of building neighborhood cohesiveness; and WHEREAS, Many of these events do not have corporate or private sponsorship leaving non-profits to rely on their limited resources; and WHEREAS, The city charges nearly up to $2000 for equipment for staging an event; and WHEREAS, It is the position of this Council to encourage as many community events as possible because it enhances quality of life in the neighborhoods; and WHEREAS, Many non-profits unfortunately improvise and use make-shift stages which can be hazardous; and WHEREAS, Charging a nominal fee for stages for non-profits, community groups and block captains promotes better relationships in communities and ultimately serves to reduce crime; now therefore RESOLVED, THAT THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Authroizes the Committee on Finance conduct hearings on the possibility of non-profits, community groups and block captains, the ability to use stages, show mobiles and sound systems for community events at a nominal fee. ..End
