..Title Recognizing, Honoring, And Celebrating The 30th Anniversary of COMHAR - For Helping People Of All Ages And Cultures In The Community Who Have Developmental Disabilities, Mental Health Concerns, Physical Limitations And Other Challenges. ..Body WHEREAS, Founded in 1975, COMHAR helps people of all ages and cultures in the community who have developmental disabilities, mental health concerns, physical limitations and other challenges; and WHEREAS, COMHAR's behavioral health services treat individuals who need help coping with life stresses and those who live with chronic mental illness or addiction; and WHEREAS, COMHAR is the only agency in Philadelphia offering a range of programs to serve individuals diagnosed with both HIV/AIDS and mental illness and their families or caregivers; and WHEREAS, The Community Living Room, a program provided by COMHAR, is a nationally-acclaimed psychiatric rehabilitation day program, that embraces its members in a welcoming, engaging environment providing education and skill-building opportunities to develop healthier, more rewarding lives; and WHEREAS, COMHAR monitors the entry into all mental retardation services - based on intake evaluations, support coordinators working with families to develop individualized service plans for their mentally retarded relatives and assisting them in obtaining vocational, socialization and recreational programs through COMHAR or other agencies; and WHEREAS, COMHAR serves infants to young adults with programs that help them to maximize their potential and enjoy a happier healthier life within their families; and WHEREAS, COMHAR specializes in home care for clients of all ages, enabling many individuals who would otherwise be hospitalized to remain in their homes; and WHEREAS, COMHAR believes that people come first, and each individual has the right to maximize their potential, through a trusting and supportive environment fostering growth; now therefore RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That City Council Hereby Recognize, Honor, And Celebrate The 30th Anniversary Of COMHAR - For Helping People Of All Ages And Cultures In The Community Who Have Developmental Disabilities, Mental Health Concerns, Physical Limitations And Other Challenges. FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to COMHAR as further evidencing the sincere admiration and gratitude of this legislative body. ..End
