..Title Recognizing, celebrating, and honoring the life of Philadelphia native Ed Bradley, an outstanding American citizen, journalist and television reporter for his many contributions to society. ..Body WHEREAS, Edward Rudolph Bradley, Jr., was born in Philadelphia on June 22, 1941; and WHEREAS, Ed Bradley's first job out of college was teaching at a Philadelphia elementary school; and WHEREAS, He began his communications career at Philadelphia radio station WDAS, programming music, reading news, and covering basketball games; and WHEREAS, It wasn't long before Mr. Bradley's talents for exceptional news reporting were noticed by CBS, who hired him for their New York flagship radio station, WCBS, then, soon after, was transferred to CBS News, where he covered important world events, such as the Paris Peace Talks and the Vietnam War; he even survived injuries from a mortar round while covering the war in Cambodia; and WHEREAS, He served as CBS News' White House correspondent before joining the long-running, critically acclaimed television news program, 60 Minutes; and WHEREAS, Over the course of his career, Bradley received the Emmy Award 19 times; and WHEREAS, Ed Bradley was awarded the Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award, a Peabody Award for his African AIDS report; and, in 2005, the National Association of Black Journalists awarded Bradley, who was one the first African Americans to break into network television news, their Lifetime Achievement Award; now therefore RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That We Recognize, Celebrate, And Honor The Life Of Philadelphia Native Ed Bradley, An Outstanding American Citizen, Journalist And Television Reporter For His Many Contributions To Society; and FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to the Bradley family further evidencing the sincere admiration and gratitude of this legislative body. ..End
