..Title Authorizing City Council's Committee on Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs to determine the feasibility of the Department of Parks and Recreation partnering with the Philadelphia School Board for the purpose of developing community run recreation programs in public school facilities to be used after hours; such community run recreation programs would be sponsored and run by the Parks and Recreation Department. ..Body WHEREAS, Quality after-school programming can fill needs of families, children, and communities; and WHEREAS, Community public school facilities can offer the venue for many types of after-school programs, adult learning center, and community meetings, and many other neighborhood activities; and WHEREAS, Schools that are vacant during the evening can become places where the community congregates for youth and family activities; and WHEREAS, A comparable community run recreation program may be feasible, which could be multifaceted in addressing after-school programs, with age appropriate learning activities and creating community centers for an array of community activities; now therefore RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That Council hereby authorizes the Committee on Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs to determine the feasibility of the Department of Parks and Recreation partnering with the Philadelphia School Board for the purpose of developing community run recreation programs in public school facilities to be used after hours; such community run recreation programs would be sponsored and run by the Parks and Recreation Department. ..End
