Rendell appointed Sandra Dungee Glenn as Chairman of the School Reform Commission upon the resignation of James Nevels; and WHEREAS, She is a proven leader through her work as member of the Board of Education for the School District of Philadelphia as a former Commissioner of the Philadelphia Housing Authority, and through serving as a founding partner in the creation of the Pennsylvania Campaign for Public Education; and WHEREAS, Currently she serves as President of the American Cities Foundation, an organization committed to the development and implementation of a national urban policy and to defining a new relationship between our cities and the federal government; and WHEREAS, Because her advocacy, electoral and political experience is precisely the reason Mrs. Dungee Glenn is needed as chairman of the School Reform Commission; and WHEREAS, Under her leadership every student will be treated equally, allowing for all students an opportunity to be educated in the public school system; now therefore RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby support the appointment of Sandra Dungee Glenn as Chairman of the School Reform Commission for the Philadelphia School District.
