..Title Recognizing, Honoring, and Celebrating the HIAS (Hebrew Immigration Aid Society) and Council Migration Service of Philadelphia on the Occasion of its 125th Anniversary. ..Body WHEREAS, The primary mission of HIAS and Council Migration Service of Philadelphia has been to rescue, relocate, and resettle individuals of Jewish heritage and peoples of all religion and nationalities who are fleeing persecution and discrimination; and WHEREAS, Since its inception in 1882, HIAS has provided assistance to thousands of immigrants and their families in the Greater Philadelphia area; and WHEREAS, HIAS strives to advance the fair treatment and protection of the rights of immigrants and refugees, and to educate the community about the positive economic, social, and cultural contributions made by new Americans; and WHEREAS, The work performed by HIAS, even after 125 years, continues to contribute to the cultural richness, ethnic diversity, and moral integrity that makes Philadelphia a world-class city; now therefore RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That It Recognizes, Honors, and Celebrates the HIAS and Council Migration Service of Philadelphia on the Occasion of its 125th Anniversary. FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to HIAS and Council Migration Service of Philadelphia, further evidencing the sincere admiration and gratitude of this legislative body. ..End
