..Title Honoring and recognizing the great works and commitment of ArchBishop Desmond Tutu, a Champion of oppressed people Worldwide, a Forefather of the Liberation of South Africa and the banishing of Apartheid and the recipient of the Noble Peace Prize, the Albert Schweitzer Prize for Humanitarianism and the Magubela Prize. ..Body WHEREAS, The Institute of Violence Research and Prevention of St. Joseph's University, recognizes the contributions ArchBishop Desmond Tutu has made through the years with his tireless efforts in fighting oppression; and WHEREAS, ArchBishop Desmond Tutu continues to be a force of change in the face of rigid opposition; and WHEREAS, ArchBishop Desmond Tutu embodies the highest character and moral fiber of any man who has dedicated his life to the service of his God and his fellow man; now therefore RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That the most honorable ArchBishop Desmond Tutu be here after recognized as the favored adopted son of Philadelphia's 4th City Council District. FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to ArchBishop Desmond Tutu as evidence of the sincere acknowledgement and recognition of this legislative body. ..End
