..Title Recognizing Halloween, the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation (GPTMC), a company that knows how to promote all-things fun in Philly, and its partners. ..Body WHEREAS, GPTMC, Fox Philadelphia, Eastern State Penitentiary, Independence National Historical Park and the Park Hyatt Philadelphia at the Bellevue are making Philly more fun by bringing in Elvira "Mistress of the Dark" to celebrate Halloween in the City of Brotherly Love; and WHEREAS, City Council urges Philadelphians and visitors to join Elvira "Mistress of the Dark" on Friday, October 31 at the former home of Edgar Allan Poe where she will offer her interpretation of "The Raven" in recognition of his upcoming 200th Birthday; and WHEREAS, City Council also recognizes Edgar Allan Poe who wrote many of his famous poems while living in Philadelphia where he inspired future generations of writers and where he is forever immortalized as our City's king of macabre; and WHEREAS, Elvira will also visit Philadelphia's iconic Halloween attractions, including the historic Eastern State Penitentiary for Terror Behind the Walls and the Park Hyatt Philadelphia at the Bellevue for a Halloween party in the very hotel where Bram Stoker penned portions of the classic novel "Dracula;" and WHEREAS, Philadelphia is home to some of the nation's most historic and authentic buildings such as Eastern State Penitentiary, with a storied past that is the real deal; and WHEREAS, Philadelphia is already home to some of the country's top Halloween attractions and events, including the Henri David Ball, Terror Behind the Walls, Edgar Allan Poe National Historical Site, Boo at the Zoo, Sesame Place Spooktackular, Laurel Hill Cemetery, Ghost Tours, Linvilla Orchards pumpkin picking and so much more; now therefore, be it RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That Council does hereby recognize Halloween, the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation (GPTMC), a company that knows how to promote all-things fun in Philly, and its partners. FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Meryl Levitz, President and CEO of GPTMC, as a token of evidence of this legislative body's sincere appreciation for their contributions to the City. ..End
