..Title Also naming the 2700 block of North Bonsall Street as "Joan Ray Way." ..Body WHEREAS, Joan Ray moved into her home on the 2700 block of North Bonsall street in 1967; and WHEREAS, In 1980, already known for her kindness and loving spirit, Joan Ray was elected Block Captain; and WHEREAS, Joan Ray was a pillar of her North Philadelphia community; and WHEREAS, Joan Ray was instrumental in securing summer "play street" and providing free lunches to all of the children in the immediate neighborhood; and WHEREAS, In 2002, Joan Ray was elected as the Ward Leader for the 11th Ward, 2nd Division; and WHEREAS, In 2005, Joan Ray was honored by Mayor John Street for her exemplary service to her bloc and community; and WHEREAS, Joan Ray was also a member of the "More Beautiful Block Committee"; and WHEREAS, Joan Ray remained block captain and committee woman until the time of her death on April 30, 2009; now therefore RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That the 2700 block of North Bonsall Street shall also be known as "Joan Ray Way." ..End
