..Title Also Naming the Eight-Hundred Block of Fifty-Third Street, "Dr. Jimmie Ellis Way." ..Body WHEREAS, Bishop Jimmie A. Ellis began his ministry in 1983, founding the Bible Enlightenment Christian Center with just seven members; and WHEREAS, Today, those humble beginnings have culminated into what is now the Victory Christian Center, a thriving ministry located in the heart of Southwest Philadelphia with a membership of over 2,000; and WHEREAS, In 1985, Bishop Ellis founded Arnaz Ministries School of the Word Bible Institute. As Founder and President, Bishop Ellis designed a curriculum to train individuals called to ministry and those who desire an in-depth study of the Word of God for spiritual fulfillment. Today, the two-year program offers a variety of selective and innovative courses conducive to developing church leaders; and WHEREAS, In 1999, Bishop Ellis founded The Conquerors Community Development Corporation (CCDC), a mission designed to elevate the quality of life for the Southwest Philadelphia community through economic development, child development, technological awareness, spiritual and cultural programs and health initiatives; and WHEREAS, In March 2004, Bishop Ellis received his honorary Doctorate of Divinity Degree from Saint Thomas Christian College in Jacksonville, Florida. He is the author of nine books and the Founder and CEO of the Arnaz Publishing Group; and WHEREAS, Dr. Ellis' contributions have been acknowledged with numerous awards including recognition by the media and government officials; now therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Philadelphia City Council also Names the Eight-Hundred Block of Fifty-Third Street, "Dr. Jimmie Ellis Way." ..End
