..Title Recognizing and honoring the efforts of all our Philadelphia Area Summer Olympic Athletes for their positive contribution to national and local sports. ..Body WHEREAS, Jon Drummond, aka the "Clown Prince" of Track and Field, born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and winner of gold medal in 4x100 meter relay at the 2000 Summer Olympics coached the Olympic gold medalist Women's 4x400 meter relay team. Jon Drummond is known for being among the world's best starters; and WHEREAS, Glen Ochal hails from the Roxborough neighborhood of Philadelphia, and started rowing at Roman Catholic High School and the Crescent Boat Club, received a bronze medal in the Men's Final Four; and WHEREAS, Kobe Bryant, born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, attended Ardmore's Lower Merion High School where he left as Southeastern Pennsylvania's all-time leading scorer and was drafted directly into the NBA, obtained his second gold medal leading the men's basketball team to overall gold in the 2012 Olympics; and WHEREAS, Steve Kasprzyk, just began rowing in 2000 when he started at Drexel University but made the 2012 Olympic Team. With the Drexel Dragons, Kasprzyk led the team to the finals in the 2002 Dad Vail Regatta. Kasprzyk still trains in Philadelphia. When he is off the water, he enjoys mountain biking, running, and even competed in the 2004 Philadelphia Marathon; and WHEREAS, Miles Chamley-Watson was a member of the 2012 Olympic Fencing Team; his family resides in Center City and he attended Delaware Valley Friends School. Chamley-Watson would go on to live in New York and reside in State College, Pa., where he attended Penn State University. He was a three-time All-American before taking his senior season off to focus on London, which paid off as he qualified for the Olympics; and WHEREAS, Phillip Peter Dutton, is an Olympic-level equestrian rider. He is a dual Olympic gold medalist who formerly competed for Australia but became a U.S. citizen in 2006 and now competes for the United States. Phillip and his wife, Evie, own, manage and train out of True Prospect Farm, in West Grove, Pennsylvania; and WHEREAS, Katelyn Falgowski, a Landenberg, Pennsylvania native battling in her second Olympics, was the youngest collegiate athlete on Beijing Olympic roster, the 2011 Division I National Player of the Year at University of North Carolina, and competed in Field Hockey in the 2012 Olympics after successful knee surgery. She graduated from St. Mark's High School; and WHEREAS, Boyd Martin, resides in West Grove, Pennsylvania and competed in the Equestrian Olympics. Born in New South Wales, Australia, ranked #2 in 2008 on the U.S. Eventing Association Rider of the Year Leaderboard, Martin owns a coaching and training facility with his wife, Silva Martin, a German Grand Prix Dressage rider, in Cochranville, Pennsylvania; and WHEREAS, Glenn Ochal, whose rowing career began at Roman Catholic High School, won the bronze medal in the Four at the 2012 Olympics, won the pair at the 2012 National Selection Regatta #1, won the double sculls at the 2011 National Selection Regatta #2; and WHEREAS, The collective sportsmanship and athleticism of Philadelphia Area Summer Olympic Athletes represents the highest achievement in individual and team sports; now therefore RESOLVED, THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby recognizes and honors the efforts of all our Philadelphia Area Summer Olympic Athletes and thanks them for their positive contribution to national and local sports. ..End
