..Title Honoring, recognizing and commending the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #5 for their never ending service to the families of Fallen Police Officers. ..Body WHEREAS, The Fraternal Order of Police (F.O.P.) has over 14,500 members of active and retired Police Officers and Sheriffs; and WHEREAS, The F.O.P. was first chartered in 1939 to serve its members and their families and in time became the bargaining agent for the Philadelphia Police Department and the Sheriff's Office; and WHEREAS, Since 1828, more than 260 officers have given their lives in the line of duty; and WHEREAS, Beginning in 1997, the F.O.P. began the "Survivors Tribute Luncheon" for the surviving family members of Police Officers killed in the line of duty, bringing all the families together once a year to honor their sacrifice to the citizens of Philadelphia. Bonds are forged at these events that last a lifetime; and WHEREAS, The F.O.P. Lodge #5 makes sure these families and lost loved ones are never forgotten during the holiday season; and WHEREAS, The F.O.P Lodge #5 delivers food and other essentials to the families who have lost loved ones in the line of duty several times throughout the year; and WHEREAS, It is important that all remember those who were killed in the line of duty each year and those who protect and serve our community; and WHEREAS, Police Officers are among our first responders that will do anything, including laying their lives down for us, to protect and keep those who are at harm safe; and WHEREAS, Police Officers unselfishly put on their uniforms every day never knowing what may meet them; now therefore, be it RESOLVED, THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Honors, recognizes and commends the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #5 for their never ending service to the families of Fallen Police Officers. ..End
