..Title Calling for the City Council Committee on Education to hold hearings on the fiscal decision-making of the School District of Philadelphia including the School Reform Commission and School District Officials responsible for making financial decisions. ..Body WHEREAS, The School District of Philadelphia has been in financial crisis-management mode for the last several years; and WHEREAS, City Council has raised taxes to support the District during the past few years despite the difficult financial times suffered by City taxpayers; and WHEREAS, City Council has no budget oversight of the District and the District has not been accountable to the City Council for funding received from the City; and WHEREAS, This year the School District has requested sixty million dollars ($60,000,000) in additional funding from the City; and WHEREAS, The District has not explored non-traditional methods to enhance District revenues; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Philadelphia City Council calls for the Committee on Education to hold hearings on the fiscal decision-making of the School District of Philadelphia including the School Reform Commission and School District Officials responsible for making financial decisions. ..End
