..Title Declaring October 24, 2014, to be Acupuncture And Oriental Medicine Day in Philadelphia to increase public awareness of the Progress, Promise, and benefits of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. ..Body WHEREAS, Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine have a long and rich history as components of a comprehensive traditional medical system that has been used for thousands of years to diagnose and treat illness, prevent disease and improve well-being; and WHEREAS, Practitioners of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine are dedicated to the highest standards of professionalism and maintain these standards through education, credentialing and personal commitment; and WHEREAS, Millions of Americans use the services of Acupuncturists and Oriental Medicine Practitioners each year, and those practices are growing as an important segment of Public Health Care; and WHEREAS, It is important that those in need of medical services understand the full range of available treatment modalities, including Acupuncture and Traditional Oriental Medicine, and that they seek competent and professional medical care; and WHEREAS, The Association for Professional Acupuncturists of Pennsylvania (APA) is the Commonwealth's organization for non-physician Acupuncturists, established with the goal of supporting the educational and professional needs of Oriental Medicine in Pennsylvania, sponsoring continuing education programs, seeking to implement fair practice standards in Harrisburg and promoting the profession to improve health care for all residents of the State; and WHEREAS, The APA, in pursuing its mission, is supporting Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Day Iin Philadelphia as part of a unified effort led by an international partnership of related organizations from the United States, Canada and Mexico; and WHEREAS, Jan Wilson, L.Ac., an active member of APA, is helping to promote Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Day in Philadelphia by opening her new Acupuncture clinic, Chestnut Hill Family Acupuncture, in the Chestnut Hill section of Philadelphia, on October 24, 2014, which City Council celebrates and expresses its sincere best wishes for success; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That it hereby declares October 24, 2014, to be Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Day in Philadelphia to increase public awareness of the progress, promise, and benefits of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine. ..End
