..Title Welcoming The National Wrestling Coaches Association on the occasion of the return to Philadelphia of its All-Star Classic Wrestling Competition for the third time in its history and For the first time in 23 Years on November 1, 2014. ..Body WHEREAS, Philadelphia is the home of America's first and nation's oldest wrestling program, established in 1751 pursuant to Dr. Benjamin Franklin's 1749 essay, Proposals Relating to the Education of Youth in Pennsylvania, which is today the University of Pennsylvania collegiate wrestling program; and WHEREAS, Philadelphia is the home of the Pennsylvania Wrestling Club, one of very few United States amateur wrestling clubs dedicated to recruiting, training and sponsoring male and female wrestlers for international and Olympic competition; and WHEREAS, On November 1, 2014, for the third time in its history and the first time in 23 years, Philadelphia will host the National Wrestling Coaches Association All-Star Classic Wrestling Competition at the University of Pennsylvania's storied gymnasium, The Palestra, which in Greek means: "Place of Wrestling"; and WHEREAS, The National Wrestling Coaches Association All-Star Classic Wrestling Competition will feature the Nation's top-ranked Division I college wrestlers in highly- competitive matches in ten weight classes, plus five showcase matches, to launch the 2014-15 collegiate wrestling season; and WHEREAS, The City Council of Philadelphia extends its fullest greetings to the members, competitors and fans of the National Wrestling Coaches Association All-Star Classic and urge all Philadelphians to join in recognition of the impressive dedication and discipline required of this ancient and demanding sport by supporting Wrestling on the scholastic, collegiate and amateur levels for male and female competitors; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That it hereby welcomes the National Wrestling Coaches Association on the occasion of the return to Philadelphia of its All-Star Classic Wrestling Competition for the third time in its history and for the first time in 23 years on November 1, 2014. RESOLVED FURTHER, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to the National Wrestling Coaches Association Executive Director Mike Moyer at the All-Star Classic in recognition of this exciting wrestling competition. ..End
