..Title Authorizing a joint public hearing between Council's Committee on Streets and Services and Committee on Education to investigate the allocation of funds from the revenues generated by the Red Light Camera Enforcement Program and the parking meter rate increase that took effect in 2014, as well as the costs associated with administering those programs. ..Body WHEREAS, During FY 2015, the Philadelphia Parking Authority administered a total of 122 red light cameras installed in 27 intersections; and WHEREAS, The revenues generated by the violations from the Red Light Camera Enforcement Program in FY 2005 were $12,925,200, and the total revenue generated from the Program since 2006 has been $102,189,957; and WHEREAS, City Council approved a parking meter rate increase in 2014, raising the rate up by $.50 an hour in areas outside of the Center City Core area to generate additional revenue for Philadelphia schools; and WHEREAS, It has been difficult to ascertain the exact amount of funds that have been allocated from the Red Light Camera Enforcement Program since the Program began in Philadelphia; and WHEREAS, It is important for City Council to be informed on the exact amount of revenues generated from these two sources and what portion of those funds have been provided to public schools; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That it hereby authorizes a joint public hearing between Council's Committee on Streets and Services and Committee on Education to investigate the allocation of funds from the revenues generated by the Red Light Camera Enforcement Program and the parking meter rate increase that took effect in 2014, as well as the costs associated with administering those programs. ..End
