..Title Calling for the City Council Committee on Public Health and Human Services to hold hearings on the social services issues affecting the African and Caribbean Communities in our City as well as other minority communities from Latino and Asian countries. ..Body WHEREAS, There are some 50,000 African and Caribbean natives in our City as well as almost 130,000 Latinos and 68,000 Asians; and WHEREAS, Even undocumented immigrants are active citizens of our City and some have lived in our City for many years, raised families here and are deserving of social service consideration; and WHEREAS, During the days of the Ebola scare, the many individuals flying in from African and Caribbean countries were treated like they were less than human, as if they were spreading the plague although they were from countries that were not affected by Ebola; and WHEREAS, In neighborhoods where immigrant populations live, they are unfortunately generally discriminated against; and WHEREAS, Healthcare should be given equally to all Philadelphians; and WHEREAS, As elected officials, we have a responsibility to try to ensure that all people are treated equally and fairly; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the City Council Committee on Public Health and Human Services to hold hearings on the social services issues affecting the African and Caribbean Communities in our City as well as other minority communities from Latino and Asian countries. ..End
