..Title Honoring and recognizing Young Involved Philadelphia and congratulating the organization on the event of its 7th annual State of Young Philly Week. ..Body WHEREAS, Young Involved Philadelphia was founded in 2000 by a group of recent college graduates looking to become more engaged in their communities; and WHEREAS, In Philadelphia, Young Involved Philadelphia strives to engage, connect and represent the 22-35 year old demographic, encouraging the youth of our great City to become more involved in political and social activism at the local, state, and national levels; and WHEREAS, The organization aims to strengthen channels of communication between young Philadelphians, local civic groups, and the City's leadership; and WHEREAS, Young Involved Philadelphia provides resources on elected officials, election processes and voting registration to educate citizens and get them politically involved. The organization also provides resources on public partnership programs and ways to become civically engaged within various Philadelphia neighborhoods; and WHEREAS, This non-profit organization also runs a comprehensive training program for young professionals interested in serving on non-profit boards. Since its founding in 2000, Young Involved Philadelphia's reach has grown to over ten thousand followers on social media and in attendance at their events; and WHEREAS, Young Involved Philadelphia hosts an annual "State of Young Philly" Week each fall, occurring this year from November 11 to November 19, 2016. This year's week of events could not be more timely as the organization has seen record-level engagement spikes of citizens interested in getting more involved in the days since the November 8, 2016 Presidential Election; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That we hereby honor and recognize Young Involved Philadelphia and congratulate the organization on the event of its 7th annual State of Young Philly Week. FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Young Involved Philadelphia as evidence of the deep appreciation and sincere sentiments of this legislative body. ..End
