..Title Recognizing and honoring the Mastery Charter School North women's basketball team for winning the 2017 Philadelphia Public League Championship title. ..Body WHEREAS, On February 25, 2017 Mastery Charter School's "Lady Pumas" won the Philadelphia Public League Championship title in a very close game by beating Imhotep Charter 57 to 55; and WHEREAS, The win was particularly meaningful for Mastery Charter because they had lost to Imhotep in the previous two years playoffs; and WHEREAS, Forward Jayme Byers was named the game's Most Valuable Player for her aggressive play and for scoring 12 points including a crucial steal. Byers was ably assisted by her teammate Devia Terry who contributed an impressive nine points, 18 rebounds and four assists; and WHEREAS, Mastery Charter North coach, Damien Abrams was overjoyed at the effort of the entire team that never once gave up. As a result on March 3, 2017 Mastery Charter will go on play Archbishop Wood for the all-city title; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That it hereby recognizes and honors the Mastery Charter School North women's basketball team for winning the 2017 Philadelphia Public League Championship title. FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Mastery Charter North coach Damien Abrams as evidence of the high esteem and deep admiration of this legislative body. ..End
