..Title Honoring and recognizing Imhotep Charter men's basketball team for winning the 2017 Philadelphia Public League Championship title. ..Body WHEREAS, On February 23, 2017 at Saint Joseph's Hagan Arena the Imhotep Charter Panthers won the men's basketball championship for the Philadelphia Public League by defeating the Martin Luther King Cougars 53-49 in overtime; and WHEREAS, Imhotep's starting point guard Darron Russell was deemed the Most Valuable Player for the second time in his basketball career for scoring a game-high of 24 points; and WHEREAS, With this Public League Championship Imhotep will have won its 6th Public League championship and now faces Conwell-Egan on March 4, 2017 at Philadelphia University for the all-city title and the right to go on to the state playoff game; and WHEREAS, Even before this recent win, Imhotep Charter's men's basketball team was ranked number seven in the nation by USA Today; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That it hereby honors and recognizes Imhotep Charter men's basketball team for winning the 2017 Philadelphia Public League Championship title. FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Imhotep Charter head coach Andre Noble as evidence of the high esteem and deep admiration of this legislative body. ..End
