..Title Honoring Lucy Noland on her successes in Philadelphia and with Fox29 News. ..Body WHEREAS, Lucy was born in Saigon, Vietnam and moved to the United States where her family took up residence in Eugene, Oregon; and WHEREAS, She would go on to graduate from the University of Alaska, Fairbanks with a Bachelor's in Broadcast Journalism; and WHEREAS, After graduation, Ms. Noland's career began at KATN-TV, an affiliate of ABC in Fairbanks, Alaska; and WHEREAS, Her career would then take her to Anchorage where she covered eruptions of Mt. Redoubt and Mt. Spurr and to San Francisco where she would cover immigration and water rights issues; and WHEREAS, Although Ms. Noland moved on to broadcast out of Los Angeles, Houston, and New York, her fire and spirit for advocating for those without voices would never cease; and WHEREAS, In 2014, she would land at FOX29 in Philadelphia as the weekday co-anchor for evening and nightly news; and WHEREAS, Philadelphia would help ignite another of Ms. Noland's passions- advocacy for animal welfare in the City; and WHEREAS, Ms. Noland has used her public voice to scrutinize and bring attention to dire cases of animal cruelty in the City and has worked tirelessly alongside Council to work to resolve some of the concerns regarding ACCT Philly and the Animal Code; and WHEREAS, Homelessness is another topic in Philadelphia that Ms. Noland brought to the forefront of media attention and expanded public awareness of the crisis in Philadelphia; and WHEREAS, As she embarks on a new journey in her career, we hope that she will continue her staunch advocacy for fighting for the rights of those who are otherwise excluded and continue to work closely with local government to establish relationships supporting her ideas and effecting change; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Lucy Noland, for her tireless efforts to effect change and advocate for the voiceless in the City. ..End
