..Title Recognizing and honoring Phoebe A. Haddon for her appointment as Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia. ..Body WHEREAS, Phoebe A. Haddon is a distinguished attorney that has led an exemplary career in legal and undergraduate education; and WHEREAS, Haddon was born in Washington, D.C., but was raised in Passaic, New Jersey. In 1972, she received her bachelor's degree from Smith College. In 1977, Haddon received her Juris Doctorate degree from Duquesne University School of Law, and went on to earn a Master of Laws (LLM) from Yale Law School in 1985; and WHEREAS, For over 25 years, Haddon was a distinguished member of Temple University's Beasley School of Law's faculty. There, Haddon worked diligently on increasing access to education for women, and addressing racial and gender bias in Pennsylvania's legal system; and WHEREAS, In 2014, Haddon was named the Chancellor of Rutgers University - Camden, becoming the first African-American woman to ever serve in that role. As Chancellor, she directly oversaw the administration of more than 7,350 students across 39 undergraduate programs and 28 graduate programs. Under her leadership, the school reached record enrollment numbers, widened affordable access to education through scholarships given to New Jersey's working families and opened a $62.5 million Nursing and Science building; and WHEREAS, Haddon has written extensively on legal topics throughout her career, including two casebooks on constitutional and tort law, as well as numerous scholarly articles on equal rights, bias, and academic freedom; and WHEREAS, Haddon takes pride in being an engaged citizen, and serves on the Board of Trustees for Cooper University Health System, the Board of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Camden Athletic Association, and HERS-- Higher Education Resource Services; and WHEREAS, Haddon has received countless honors and recognition from educational institutions and business organizations. In 2019, Haddon was the recipient of the Ruth Bader Ginsburg Lifetime Achievement Award from the Association of American Law Schools, which is given to those with exemplary careers that demonstrate outstanding contributions to the legal profession through teaching, service, and scholarship. In 2015, Haddon received the 2015 Trailblazer's Award from the New Jersey Women Lawyer's Association. Additionally, she was named four times by the National Jurist as one of the 25 most influential people in legal education; and WHEREAS, In February 2020, Phoebe A. Haddon was named the Chair of the Board of Directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia, where she will oversee the bank's direction as well as the formulation of its monetary policy during a two-year term; and WHEREAS, Even in her new role as Chair of the Board of Directors of the Federal Reserve Bank, Haddon is still committed to the students of Rutgers University, and will remain as a law professor at the University; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That it hereby recognizes and honors Phoebe A. Haddon for her appointment as Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia. FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Phoebe A. Haddon as evidence of the sincere respect and admiration of this legislative body. ..End
