..Title Supporting House Resolution 25, which would initiate investigations and call for the sanction, including removal from the House of Representatives, of members who have sought to overturn the 2020 Presidential election. ..Body WHEREAS, Congresswoman Cori Bush's resolution was introduced as a response to a violent attack on the United States Capitol Building on January 6, 2021 that resulted in four deaths, numerous injuries, 60 arrests, and caused for lawmakers to be evacuated for their safety; and WHEREAS, The Capitol riot displayed inappropriate and offensive imagery of Confederate symbols and white nationalism; and WHEREAS, The Capitol riot was incited by certain Republican members of Congress, who were seen cheering on Pro-Trump protestors on January 6, 2021, in an attempt to overturn the results of the 2020 Presidential election, despite lack of evidence and rejection of previous election challenges; and WHEREAS, Certain Republican members of Congress attempting to overturn the election failed to call off and condemn rioters for the damage done to the Capitol Building and to United States democracy; and WHEREAS, Certain Republican members of Congress attempting to overturn the election have threatened the integrity of the Constitution and United States democracy by trying to install a dictatorship, endorsing false claims of election fraud, and staging an Electoral College challenge that centered as the focus of the Capitol Riot, all despite disapproval from other members of the Republican party; and WHEREAS, The purpose of Congresswoman Cori Bush's resolution is to investigate whether those members of the House who have sought to overturn the 2020 Presidential election have breached their oath of office to uphold the Constitution, and to impose necessary punitive measures; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That it hereby supports House Resolution 25, which would initiate investigations and call for the sanction, including removal from the House of Representatives, of members who have sought to overturn the 2020 Presidential election. ..End
