..Title Recognizing the Ukrainian Federation of America on the occasion of its 30th Anniversary. ..Body WHEREAS, The Ukrainian Federation of America (UFA) is a registered non-profit organization headquartered in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania; and WHEREAS, Founded in 1991, the UFA, according to its organizational mission statement, "develops, implements and supports programs that preserve Ukrainian culture and heritage, strengthen communities and improve the quality of life of those in need"; and WHEREAS, The UFA serves the vibrant Ukrainian American community in addition to supporting Ukrainians at home and around the world; and WHEREAS, The organization places an emphasis on providing healthcare and crisis response services to rural and disadvantaged communities in Ukraine, and facilitates travel to the United States for specialized medical treatments; and WHEREAS, The UFA organizes student internships and exchange programs between American and Ukrainian institutions, as well as funds historical preservation initiatives in Ukraine; and WHEREAS, To preserve and promote Ukrainian culture, the organization supports art exchanges and related organizations, such as the acclaimed Voloshky Ukrainian Dance Ensemble which is based in Philadelphia; and WHEREAS, The UFA also supports advocacy and information campaigns, working closely with civic organizations and public officials to inform policymakers and the public of the community's contributions and needs; and WHEREAS, The United States established diplomatic relations with Ukraine in 1991 - the same year in which the UFA was founded - and continues to work closely with the Ukraine as a key ally and partner; and WHEREAS, Organizations like the UFA enhance ties between our two Nations and ensure continued prosperity for Ukrainian Americans and Ukrainian nationals at home and around the world; and WHEREAS, The City of Philadelphia, home to a large and vibrant Ukrainian American community, is pleased to recognize the UFA for its three decades of exceptional and honorable service; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That it herby recognizes the Ukrainian Federation of America on the occasion of its 30th Anniversary. FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy be presented to Dr. Zenia Chernyk, President of the Ukrainian Federation of America, further evidencing the sincere respect and admiration of this legislative body. ..End
