..Title Authorizing Council's Committee on Global Opportunities and the Creative/Innovative Economy to hold public hearings on the findings and recommendations of the Philadelphia Fashion and Garment Industry Task Force. ..Body WHEREAS, On February 27, 2020, City Council passed Resolution No. 200176, introduced by Councilmember David Oh, which authorized the creation of the Philadelphia Fashion and Garment Industry Task Force; and WHEREAS, At the turn of the 20th century, Philadelphia was a global leader in fashion and textile industries. Notable apparel giants of the era, including Stetson and Jacob Reed's Sons, were headquartered in Philadelphia. By the 1980s, however, the number of Philadelphians employed in the industry was cut in half according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics; and WHEREAS, The Philadelphia Fashion and Garment Industry Task Force has worked develop recommendations for reviving and reinforcing the presence of fashion in Philadelphia to improve the local economy, create employment opportunities, and provide resources for local designers and businesses; and WHEREAS, The Philadelphia Fashion and Garment Industry Task Force is made up of a diverse group of industry experts and business owners that have extensive experience and insight into the industry; and WHEREAS, The Philadelphia Fashion and Garment Industry Task Force has completed its work and issued a report of findings and recommendations; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That it hereby authorizes Council's Committee on Global Opportunities and the Creative/Innovative Economy to hold public hearings on the findings and recommendations of the Philadelphia Fashion and Garment Industry Task Force. ..End
