..Title Recognizing and honoring Louis Scaglione - President, CEO, and Music Director of the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra Music Institute - on the occasion of his 25th Anniversary with the organization. ..Body WHEREAS, Louis Scaglione is the President, CEO, and Music Director of the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra Music Institute (PYO Music Institute); and WHEREAS, Founded in 1939 as an all-volunteer organization, the PYO Music Institute today serves nearly 600 students from the greater Philadelphia region as one of the most respected music education and youth orchestra programs in the United States; and WHEREAS, Scaglione joined the PYO Music Institute in 1997 after earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Music at the University of Illinois and a Master of Music degree at Temple University, where he served as the Assistant Conductor and Chorus Master of the Temple Opera Theater; and WHEREAS, Scaglione has been instrumental to the growth and success of the PYO Music Institute, which now oversees several program divisions directed by some of the top music professionals in the region: The Philadelphia Youth Orchestra (PYO), Philadelphia Young Artists Orchestra (PYAO), Young Musicians Debut Orchestra (YMDO), Bravo Brass, Prysm Strings and Prysm Strings Young Artists, Tune Up Philly (TUP), and Pizzicato Players; and WHEREAS, As maestro, Scaglione has led the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra around the world on several international concert tours, including the World Youth Music Forum in Moscow (1998), the Czech Republic and Italy (2000), China (2002), Eastern and Central Europe (2004), and sold-out venues in S�o Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (2007); and WHEREAS, Scaglione's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion through PYO Music Institute's nationally recognized orchestral music learning pathway has garnered acclaim and funding from across the country; and WHEREAS, The PYO Music Institute has consistently developed young musicians into excelling professionals; many members of the prestigious Philadelphia Orchestra are proud alumni of the PYO Music Institute; and WHEREAS, Scaglione's steadfast leadership and body of work- over the course of more than two decades - has distinguished himself as a highly regarded musician, educator and conductor; and WHEREAS, The City of Philadelphia is proud to acknowledge his outstanding contributions and ongoing success; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADLEPHIA, That it herby recognizes and honors Louis Scaglione - President, CEO, and Music Director of the Philadelphia Youth Orchestra Music Institute - on the occasion of his 25th Anniversary with the organization.
