..Title Authorizing the Committee on Streets and Services to hold hearings to examine the Philadelphia Parking Authority's customer convenience and accessibility to remedy parking violations. ..Body WHEREAS; After receiving a parking ticket, an individual has 15 days to pay or dispute the ticket before receiving a notice to pay within 10 days; and WHEREAS; If no action is taken within 10 days, and 3 tickets have gone unpaid, the fee goes up to sixty-five dollars ($65.00) in late fees and the vehicle may be booted and to have a book taken off the vehicle, all outstanding tickets and a one-hundred-fifty dollars ($150.00) boot fee must be paid, and WHEREAS; Unlike the parking ticket, the fee must be paid in person at the Parking Violations Branch at 913 Filbert Street; and WHEREAS; During the Pandemic, the PPA reduced the use of the boot and mass ticketing, however, PPA has begun booting again, leaving a very small window of time to get the boot removed before the PPA tows the car and sends it to an impound lot; and WHEREAS; The speed at which the PPA has ramped up parking tickets, booting, and towing has left many Philadelphians frustrated and deteriorated interactions between PPA staff and Philadelphians; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, THAT PHILADELPHIA CITY COUNCIL, Hold hearings in the Committee of Streets and Services to examine the Philadelphia Parking Authority's customer convenience and accessibility to remedy parking violations. ..End
