..Title Renaming and designating the property commonly referred to as the Hillside Recreation Center, located at 201 Fountain Street, as the "Lonnie Cohen Recreation Center" in the City of Philadelphia. ..Body WHEREAS, Lonnie Cohen was born and raised in Northeast Philadelphia and spent a large part of his youth participating in youth soccer, basketball and baseball, playing with the Bustleton Bengals Club, located near his childhood home; and WHEREAS, Lonnie's love for sports never waned as he got older and his passion for athletics eventually led him to a career with the Philadelphia Department of Parks and Recreation. Lonnie started off his legacy as a Recreation Leader, eventually working his way up the ladder in the department. Over the course of his twenty five year career, Lonnie worked at various recreation centers around the City, spending his last years as the leader at Hillside Recreation Center; and WHEREAS, At the time of his passing, in addition to serving the citizens of Manayunk as the recreation leader at Hillside, Lonnie was also the acting Commissioner for the Philadelphia Parks and Recreation Youth Soccer Program. Throughout his years of dedication to the City of Philadelphia, Lonnie also served as the Chair of the City's Outdoor Soccer Program and as a member of the Executive Team for the Blue Cross Broad Street Run and the Philadelphia Marathon. Lonnie also volunteered his time to help organize many Mummers' Day parades; and WHEREAS, Lonnie will always be remembered by his colleagues, friends and family as an advocate for the betterment of the residents of our city through providing rewarding sports outlets to the children that played under his watchful eye, his candor and his matter of fact style. His passion for our Philadelphia sports teams, golfing and Bruce Springsteen will live on in the hearts of those fortunate enough to have met Lonnie. He was a loving and devoted son, brother, uncle, godfather and friend, never to be forgotten; now therefore THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA HEREBY ORDAINS: SECTION 1. The Hillside Recreation Center is hereby renamed and dedicated as the "Lonnie Cohen Recreation Center". SECTION 2. This Ordinance shall take effect immediately. ..End
