..Title Urging the United States Congress to pass H.R. 8105, the Good Jobs for Good Airports Act, to ensure fair wages and benefits for airport workers in Philadelphia and across the nation. ..Body WHEREAS, Workers have the right to dignity in the workplace and to be fairly compensated for their labor; and WHEREAS, Living wages and good benefits promote a healthy, stable workplace where workers can gain skills and expertise, be productive, and give back to their communities; and WHEREAS, Effective airport operations are essential to uniting families and friends, limiting the spread of disease, keeping the public safe, exposing Philadelphians and people around the world to new and diverse experiences, supporting the Philadelphia economy, and bringing new opportunities to our City; and WHEREAS, Meeting the growing challenges of operating airports securely and efficiently requires the recruitment and retention of excellent workers in all types of employment, from services to operations; and WHEREAS, The Good Jobs for Good Airports Act, will establish pay and benefits standards for those who work in airports by requiring airports that receive federal grants to certify to the Secretary of Transportation that they pay workers at least 15 dollars per hour and that provide meaningful fringe benefits; and WHEREAS, With a justly compensated workforce, the Philadelphia International Airport, and airports across the country will be safe and efficient portals for Philadelphians to travel to see their loved ones, learn and explore, grow their businesses and careers, and expand economic opportunity in Philadelphia and across the nation; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Urges the United States Congress to pass H.R. 8105, the Good Jobs for Good Airports Act, to ensure fair wages and benefits for airport workers in Philadelphia and across the nation. ..End
