..Title Recognizing Friday, October 20, 2023, as Community Media Day and Honoring Public, Educational, and Government Access Channels in the City of Philadelphia. ..Body WHEREAS, Community Media Day is an annual celebration of voices that bring awareness to the importance of free speech and accessible media for all individuals to have their voices heard; and WHEREAS, Community Media Day was founded in Brooklyn, New York but is celebrated all throughout the world to ensure that the media landscape remains inclusive for all people, across all media platforms; and WHEREAS, The seventh annual Community Media Day is on Friday, October 20, 2023, which falls in line with Free Speech Week; and WHEREAS, Community Media Day celebrates the important role of Public, Educational and Government (PEG) Access television, often referred to "Community Television" plays in the US, in over 1700 organizations in all 50 states; and WHEREAS, in Philadelphia, the PEG stations, PhlTV, the School District's PSTV, Temple University's Temple TV, Community College of Philadelphia's CCPTV, LaSalle TV and the PhillyCAM; and WHEREAS, PEG Channels contribute to a healthy democracy by providing service to communities not served by Local News; promotion of Transparency and Open Government; Public Safety and Health Communication; coverage of Local Culture, Events, History and Small Business; a Forum for Freedom of Expression and Religion; and promotion of Digital Equity and Media Access for all; and WHEREAS, Philadelphia's PEG Channels play an important role in the community in helping members create media which promotes civic engagement, and Community Media Day is an annual reflection of these values ; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF PHILADELPHIA, recognizing Friday, October 20, 2023, as Community Media Day and honoring all PhillyCAM and their fellow Community Media partners in the City of Philadelphia. FURTHER RESOLVED, That an engrossed copy be presented to PhillyCAM further evidencing the sincere admiration and respect of this legislative body. ..End
