..Title Recognizing and Honoring Jaron "Boots" Ennis, the reigning International Boxing Federation (IBF) World Welterweight champion for his outstanding achievements in professional boxing and work in the community. ..Body WHEREAS, Jaron "Boots" Ennis, was born on June 26, 1997, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and raised in the Germantown section of the City; and WHEREAS, Jaron Ennis trained in the sport of boxing since he was young child under the tutelage of his father, professional boxer Derek "Bozy" Ennis, who helped hone his son's talent to become a successful fighter in the world of professional boxing. Jaron success has included winning silver and gold medals at the U.S. National Golden Gloves Championships in 2014 and 2015 respectively; and WHEREAS, Jaron made his professional debut on April 30, 2016, with a first-round knockout victory over Cory Muldrew, followed by a string of victories including wins over Chris Alexander and Marcus Beckford in 2016, and multiple stoppage wins in 2017 and throughout subsequent years; and WHEREAS, Jaron continued his success with notable victories over such opponents as Sergey Lipinets and Thomas Dulorme in 2021, and Custio Clayton in 2022. He later claimed the IBF Interim World Welterweight title in a boxing match against Karen Chukhadzhian in January 2023, followed by a successful defense against Roiman Villa in July 2023; and WHEREAS, On November 9, 2023, Jaron was awarded the IBF World Welterweight title following the federation's removal of the previous champion, and he subsequently successfully defended the IBF belt against David Avanesyan on July 13, 2024, winning by technical knockout in the fifth-round; and WHEREAS, Jaron, with his father, are significant role models to the young people in their community by providing mentoring and training through their boxing programs, and WHEREAS, Jaron holds the distinction of being the only current world boxing champion hailing from the City of Philadelphia; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Recognizes and honors Jaron "Boots" Ennis, the reigning International Boxing Federation (IBF) World Welterweight champion for his outstanding achievements in professional boxing and work in the community. FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this resolution be presented to Jaron "Boots" Ennis as evidence of the sincere respect and admiration of this legislative body. ..End
