..Title Authorizing the Committee on Law and Government to hold hearings to evaluate the financial impacts of the impending Trump Administration on the City of Philadelphia, to ensure that the City is immune to harmful policies. ..Body WHEREAS, The City of Philadelphia is an important center of commerce, governance, and culture in the United States, and its economy is closely tied to federal policies and decisions; and WHEREAS, The impending transition to a new presidential administration under Donald J. Trump is expected to bring significant changes in federal policies, regulations, and fiscal priorities, potentially impacting various sectors including healthcare, education, infrastructure, housing, law enforcement, social services, and more within the City of Philadelphia; and WHEREAS, It is essential for the City of Philadelphia's government to understand the potential economic and financial impacts of the Trump Administration on its budget, operations, and the well-being of its residents; and WHEREAS, In order to ensure that the City's leadership is prepared for these changes and able to make informed decisions, it is important to evaluate the anticipated financial and regulatory effects on the City's budget and resources; and WHEREAS, The incoming administration could potentially reduce federal funding for infrastructure projects in cities like Philadelphia. This may present challenges in maintaining and upgrading critical urban infrastructure, which could hinder long-term economic growth; and WHEREAS, Trump's stance on education, healthcare, and social safety nets could lead to tension between the federal government and Philadelphia's leadership. The Trump administration's potential cuts to programs like Medicaid and federal support for public schools could have a significant impact on the City's public health and educational systems; and WHEREAS, Philadelphia, home to a significant proportion of low-income families, could find these cuts particularly challenging, exacerbating existing inequalities. Trump's judicial appointments, especially to the federal courts, could influence local social policies for decades to come, particularly in areas of civil rights and criminal justice reform; and WHEREAS, The Committee on Law and Government should hold public hearings to evaluate the potential financial impacts of the incoming Trump Administration on the City of Philadelphia, which will include examining the expected effects of federal policies and decisions on City revenues, federal funding allocations, City services, and overall economic conditions; and WHEREAS, The hearings shall include input from relevant City departments, financial experts, federal officials, and other stakeholders as appropriate, and shall seek to identify risks, challenges, and opportunities for the City of Philadelphia in light of the anticipated federal changes; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby authorizes, the Committee on Law and Government to hold hearings to evaluate the financial impacts of the impending Trump Administration on the City of Philadelphia. ..End
