..Title Proclaiming May 2025 as Dual Asian American Pacific Islander and Jewish American Heritage Month in Philadelphia to pay tribute to the rich history and significant contributions made by generations of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders and Jewish Americans to our Country, Commonwealth, and City. ..Body WHEREAS, The City of Philadelphia is known for being the birthplace of the United States, where our Founding Fathers met, discussed, debated and formed a new country. It is the City where the country's two most important documents, the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, were written and ratified. It is the City known for Brotherly love and Sisterly affection; and WHEREAS, AAPI and Jewish Americans have made significant contributions to the arts, entertainment, science and technology, government, business, culinary traditions, and other fields in the United States, and have played an important role in shaping America; and WHEREAS, Over the years, the AAPI Community has made great strides in Philadelphia, establishing AAPI Heritage Week to celebrate AAPI achievements and communities, organizing numerous census champion trainings and events to ensure their communities were counted in the U.S. Census, establishing the Asian Arts Initiative and Southeast Asian Market to foster cultural expression, as well as creating the Mayor's Commission on Asian Pacific American Affairs to ensure proper advocacy in City policy; and WHEREAS, Jewish Americans in Philadelphia have made significant contributions to American society, particularly in the areas of religious leadership, education, and cultural institutions by establishing important organizations such as the first American Jewish Publication Society and the first Hebrew high school in the United States, playing a key role in developing Jewish cultural and educational institutions throughout the 19th century, and founding several important national organizations including the Jewish Publication Society, the American Jewish Historical Society, and the Jewish Theological Seminary; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby proclaims May 2025 as Dual Asian American and Pacific Islander and Jewish American Heritage Month in Philadelphia to pay tribute to the rich history and significant contributions made by generations of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders and Jewish Americans to our Country, Commonwealth, and City. FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this Resolution be presented to the Pennsylvania Asian Pacific American Jewish Alliance as evidence of the admiration and respect of this body. FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this Resolution be presented to the American Jewish Committee as evidence of the admiration and respect of this body. FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this Resolution be presented to the Weitzman National Museum of American Jewish History as evidence of the admiration and respect of this body. FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this Resolution be presented to the Northeast Philadelphia Development Corporation (NPDC) ???????? as evidence of the admiration and respect of this body. ..End
