..Title Honoring Father Joseph J. Kelley by renaming the 2400 block of South 17th Street as "Father Joseph Kelley Way" in recognition of his dedicated Pastoral leadership at Saint Monica Parish and his longstanding service to the South Philadelphia community. ..Body WHEREAS, Saint Monica Roman Catholic Church was established on January 1, 1895, and has served the South Philadelphia community for more than 125 years as a center for worship, education, charitable outreach, and neighborhood support for families of all backgrounds; and WHEREAS, Father Joseph J. Kelley has faithfully served as Pastor of Saint Monica Parish in South Philadelphia, one of the largest and most historic Catholic parishes in the community, providing spiritual leadership and pastoral care to generations of parishioners; and WHEREAS, In addition to his role as pastor, Father Kelley has served as Dean of the Philadelphia South and East Deanery, a leadership role entrusted to him by the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, in which he has supported collaboration among parishes and advised fellow clergy; and WHEREAS, Under Father Kelley's leadership, Saint Monica Parish has continued its strong tradition of community service, including support for initiatives such as the Saint Monica Eldercare Program, which helps older adults age safely and with dignity through care coordination, social connection, and volunteer support; and WHEREAS, The enduring presence and impact of Saint Monica Parish in South Philadelphia is closely tied to Father Kelley's decades of service, reflecting a shared legacy of faith, compassion, and dedication to the neighborhood it serves; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, That the 2400 block of South 17th Street, between West Ritner Street and West Porter Street, shall hereafter be officially designated as "Father Joseph Kelley Way". FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be presented to Reverand Joseph Kelley for his dedicated leadership and profound contributions to Saint Monica Parish and the South Philadelphia community. ..End
