..Title Celebrating and recognizing February 15th as 215 Day of Giving, an annual observance that honors Philadelphia's identity while strengthening and highlighting the role of nonprofit organizations servicing under-resourced and underserved communities. ..End WHEREAS, Philadelphia is home to over 3,000 nonprofit organizations that provide essential services across every neighborhood and play a critical role in the City's economy and workforce, yet many small and mid-sized organizations face funding disparities that limit their capacity to meet growing community needs; and WHEREAS, Several of Philadelphia's poorest and most high service need neighborhoods have among the lowest concentrations of nonprofit organizations per capita, resulting in persistent gaps in access to services for residents with the greatest needs, particularly in marginalized communities; and WHEREAS, Philadelphia's nonprofit sector is one of the backbones of the City's communities, delivering vital services including healthcare, education, food security, housing assistance, and youth development that support the health and stability of neighborhoods Citywide; and WHEREAS, February 15th, known as "215 Day," celebrates Philadelphia's original area code and has traditionally highlighted the City's businesses and cultural institutions, but it also presents an opportunity to elevate civic engagement and community-driven impact through investment in nonprofit institutions; and WHEREAS, 215 Day of Giving builds upon this existing celebration by transforming civic pride into meaningful action through focused charitable giving and collective support for nonprofit organizations serving underfunded and underserved neighborhoods, strengthening Philadelphia's nonprofit infrastructure and reinforcing the City's identity as a place of brotherly love and shared responsibility; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby recognizes and honors February 15th as 215 Day of Giving, an annual observance that celebrates Philadelphia's identity while strengthening and highlighting the role of nonprofit organizations serving under-resourced and underserved communities. ..End
