..Title Renaming the 3000 Block of West Harper Street "Joyce Hill Way" to honor the life and legacy of Joyce Hill. ..Body WHEREAS, Joyce Hill was born on April 21, 1943, in Petersburg, Virginia, and graduated from Peabody High School; and WHEREAS, She moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1968 and became a devoted mother to six children: Dannette, Rickey, Naj, Tony, Johnetta, and David; and WHEREAS, Joyce Hill dedicated more than ten years of service to Saint Christopher Hospital, providing compassionate care and support to patients; and WHEREAS, She then worked for 18 years with the Urban Affairs Coalition as an age advocate, assisting seniors and vulnerable residents, and served Philadelphia's youth for 15 years at Strawberry Mansion High School, as well as eight years at Beckett Garden Life Center; and WHEREAS, Joyce Hill was a committed community leader as Block Captain of the 3000 Block of West Harper Street for 50 years, tirelessly working to improve the safety, beauty, and cohesion of her neighborhood, including maintaining a garden memorial park in honor of Charnae Wise; and WHEREAS, She served as a Democratic Committee Person in the 29th Ward - 10th Division for 40 years, demonstrating her commitment to her community and active participation in local government; and WHEREAS, Joyce Hill's life and work reflected an extraordinary commitment to her community, making her a role model whose contributions positively impacted generations of Philadelphians; and WHEREAS, Her compassion, activism, and dedication serve as a lasting example for all who live, work, and engage in the Strawberry Mansion community and beyond; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby renames the 3000 Block of West Harper Street "Joyce Hill Way" to honor the life and legacy of Joyce Hill. FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this Resolution be presented to the family of Joyce Hill as evidence of the sincere respect and admiration of this body. ..End
