..Title Honoring Bishop J. Louis Felton from The Mt. Airy Church of God in Christ for his extraordinary lifetime of service, leadership, and lasting contributions to the spiritual, civic, and social well-being of the City of Philadelphia during Black History Month. ..Body WHEREAS, Black History Month is recognized as an annual opportunity to honor African American leaders whose faith, service, and vision have strengthened the social, spiritual, and civic fabric of the City of Philadelphia; and WHEREAS, Bishop J. Louis Felton, Senior Pastor and Servant Leader, has faithfully served in Gospel Ministry for more than fifty years, exemplifying transformational leadership grounded in faith, justice, and community empowerment; and WHEREAS, Bishop Felton has served as Senior Pastor of The Mt. Airy Church of God in Christ, located at 6401 Ogontz Avenue in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, since his appointment in 2010, continuing the historic legacy of the church founded by Bishop Ernest C. Morris, Sr.; and WHEREAS, Under Bishop Felton's servant leadership, The Mt. Airy Church of God in Christ has experienced remarkable spiritual and institutional growth, with more than 2,000 individuals receiving Christ, and with over four million dollars invested in capital improvements and ministry development to strengthen the church's impact within the community; and WHEREAS, Bishop Felton's leadership extends throughout the City of Philadelphia through his service as President of the Black Clergy of Philadelphia and Vicinity, First Vice President of the Philadelphia NAACP, and Chair of the NAACP Religious Affairs Committee, working collaboratively with civic leaders, educators, law enforcement, and community stakeholders to improve public safety, education, and quality of life for all residents; and WHEREAS, In recognition of his influence and leadership, Bishop Felton was named one of Philadelphia's 100 Most Influential African Americans in 2024 by The Philadelphia Tribune, and has received national recognition through his induction into the Morehouse College Board of Preachers and service on multiple faith-based and broadcasting boards; and WHEREAS, Through his unwavering advocacy for education, youth opportunity, economic development, and community revitalization, Bishop Felton continues to embody the highest ideals of African American faith leadership celebrated during Black History Month; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, RESOLVED, BY THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Honors and commends Bishop J. Louis Felton for his extraordinary lifetime of service, faith-filled leadership, and lasting contributions to the spiritual, civic, and social well-being of the City of Philadelphia. ..End
