..Title Recognizing March as Brain Injury Awareness Month. ..Body WHEREAS, National Brain Injury Awareness Month was developed to increase awareness about the impacts of traumatic brain injuries, promote services to people living with brain injuries, and provide education on preventable brain injuries; and WHEREAS, Brain Injury is a major public health issue: 2.8 million Americans suffer a brain injury annually, and over 5 million live with long-term disabilities. According to experts, someone in America will experience a brain injury every nine seconds; and WHEREAS, Brain injuries lead to chronic conditions, loss of independence, and economic hardship for families. Veterans, children, athletes, and older adults are at risk; and WHEREAS, Millions of Americans live with brain injuries, yet many do not receive the care and support that they need. Brain injuries are lifelong conditions many people struggle with long-term challenges like memory loss, migraines, depression, and mobility issues; and WHEREAS, Brain injuries cost the U.S. healthcare system billions of dollars each year due to hospital stays, long-term care, and lost productivity; and WHEREAS, If someone has a serious head jolt of some sort, early medical assistance can mean the difference between full recovery and living with lingering, long-term, and unpleasant symptoms; and WHEREAS, Early diagnosis and improved post-acute care reduce long-term costs, and investing in research and treatment lowers healthcare spending by preventing long-term disability; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA ,Hereby recognizes March as Brain Injury Awareness Month. ..End
