..Title Renaming the 300 Block of East Rockland Street between N. 2nd Street N. 3rd Street "Sharon Vaughn Street," in honor of her service, advocacy and dedication to public service. ..Body WHEREAS, Born and raised in North Philadelphia, Sharon A. Vaughn, is a loving mother, grandmother, and wife, centering family and extending this same love and care to the communities she serves; and WHEREAS, Sharon utilized the knowledge she acquired through years of dedication to help others, launching her career in public service in 1989 under the guidance of the late Councilmember Augusta A. "Gussie" Clark, bringing coalitions of individuals together to support initiatives benefiting the community; and WHEREAS, Following more than 33 years serving various constituencies and public service initiatives throughout Philadelphia, Sharon ran for one of two at-large Council seats in November 2022, earning election and further solidifying her place in Philadelphia history; and WHEREAS, In November 2022, with strong support, Sharon won a special election for one of two vacant at-large Council seats, taking meaningful stances to reduce violent crime, improve educational opportunities, and strengthen vibrant community relations so that all residents feel a sense of safety, belonging, and care; and WHEREAS, Sharon's commitment to various communities goes beyond City government, serving as a Board Member of both Project HOME as well as the Greater Philadelphia Asian Social Service Center (GPASS), while also advocating on behalf of the 42nd Ward as Democratic Leader among several other leadership roles; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA, Hereby renames the 300 Block of East Rockland Street as "Sharon Vaughn Street" in recognition of her sincere commitment and advocacy for the communities she represents, her bravery, and the enduring legacy of her service to the City of Philadelphia. FURTHER RESOLVED, That an Engrossed copy of this Resolution be presented to Sharon A. Vaughn and her family as a token of the City's appreciation for her service and unwavering advocacy. ..End
