..Title Officially re-naming and designating Bridesburg Park, located at 3101 Orthodox Street in the City of Philadelphia, as "Robert A. Borski Park". ..Body WHEREAS, Robert Anthony Borski Jr., known to all as Bob Borski, was born in the City of Philadelphia in 1948, he is a graduate of Frankford High School and the University of Baltimore; and WHEREAS, From 1977 to 1982, Bob represented the people of the 175th Pennsylvania Legislative District as their State Representative; and WHEREAS, Borski was elected to serve the 3rd Pennsylvania Congressional District in 1983 where he served 10 consecutive terms until his retirement in 2003; and WHEREAS; Then Congressmen Borski's attention began to turn toward the redevelopment of the riverfront in his last few terms in Congress as he began to assemble a coalition dedicated to the cause; and WHEREAS, Bob's service to the people of Northeast Philadelphia and the River Wards did not cease upon the end of his career as an elected official, his commitment to the redevelopment of the banks of the Delaware River; and WHEREAS, Once his time in Congress was complete, Bob turned his attention even further toward the waterfront, establishing the Pennsylvania Environmental Council's Northeast Riverfront Taskforce in 2003 which was made permanent with the establishment of the Delaware River City Corp. in 2004; and WHEREAS, The continuous greenway running from Center City through the Northeast is a major part of Bob Borski's legacies; and WHEREAS, It is only fitting to name one of the gems of this nearly complete system after one of its greatest advocates; now therefore THE COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF PHILADELPHIA HEREBY ORDAINS: SECTION 1. The City of Philadelphia hereby officially re-names and designates Bridesburg Park, located at 3101 Orthodox Street in the City of Philadelphia as "Robert A. Borski Park". SECTION 2. This Ordinance shall take effect immediately. ..End
