MINUTES OF THE ARCHITECTURAL COMMITTEE MEETING 21 March 1968 Present were: Mr. George K. Trautwein, Chairman Mr. Richmond P. Miller Mr. John F. Lloyd, for Redevelopment Authority Mr. Erling H. Pedersen, for Old Philadelphia Development Corp. Dr. Margaret B. Tinkcom, Historian Mrs. Charles J. Maurer, Secretary It was noted with deep regret that this is the last meeting of the Architectural Committee that Mr. Trautwein will chair. His resignation was reluctantly accepted by Dr. Nicholas because Mr. Trautwein's retirement at the end of March involves the closing of his office and the cessation of his professional activities. SUBMISSIONS 321 Arch Street, Loxley Court. The first building. It was recommended that the dimensions of the first story windows be verified. As drawn, it would appear that they should be 8/8 lights, rather than 6/6 as shown. In all other aspects, the submission is approved with the directive that the present ceiling be replaced by one of appropriate design for the period. The Commission needs a drawing of this and of all mouldings. Profiles of these are expected. 328 S. Front Street, Mariners' Bethel. Although the Historical Commission cannot comment on the use of a building, it is very pleased, in this case, to see the preliminary drawing which shows a restaurant and theatre use, with a terrace overlooking the river. It was the concensus that encouragement should be given to the development of this plan. EIGHT SUBMISSIONS FOR THE DEVELOPMENT AND RESTORATION OF 224, 226 and 228 S. 7th St. These were submitted to the Redevelopment Authority in competition and referred to the Historical Commission for comment. It was observed that submissions 1, 2, 3, 7 and 8 of the listing below, showed respect for history and authoritative restoration of certified buildings. Special commendation was given to the Martin and to the Zimmers plans for their concept of single family residences; It was thought that Benjamin Martin showed an outstanding quality in his presentation. It was stated that Bornfriend & Cox; Benjamin Martin; and Zimmers & Luguer made use of the data in the Commission's files. List of architects who entered the competition: 1. Bornfriend & Cox 2.
